Birds are rapidly retreating northward


Due, in particular, to climate change, species are retreating northward at greater speed than southern species are spreading to new areas. The study, carried out by the Finnish Environment Institute and the Finnish Museum of Natural History, is published in 'Global Change Biology'

International summit on Space


It will be held on June 2-4 in Paris, at Unesco headquarters. New fossil casts light on shark evolution


Using X-rays at the European Synchrotron (Esrf) to image the ancient fossil, scientists have shown that living sharks are actually quite advanced in evolutionary terms - even though they have retained their basic 'sharkiness’ over millions of years.
