A book on greening vehicles

The book 'The greening of the automotive industry' presents the results of a four-year research programme on sustainable development in the automotive industry. It has been published by Palgrave Macmillan and edited by Giuseppe Calabrese, senior researcher at Cnr-Institute for Research on Firm and Growth (Ceris), Moncalieri, Italy.

The research programme was coordinated by the Groupe d'Etudes et de Recherches Permanent sur l'Industrie et les Salariés de l'Automotive, an international network of researchers in economics, management, history, and sociology, all studying the automotive industry.

The automotive industry has a strong presence in the global economy and employs a significant proportion of the working population. It has contributed to the growth of modern society by satisfying everyday mobility. However, it has been accused of affecting environment and public health.

The concepts of sustainable development in the automotive industry has been correlated with the main theoretical framework of production analysis and managerial economics. Moreover, the authors have described the concepts of sustainable development avoiding biases or conditioning, but thoroughly elucidating their assumptions.

The book is divided in three parts (innovation design for alternative vehicles, technological trajectories in alternative vehicles, surrounding conditions for the development of alternative vehicles) and 17 chapters, written by 28 authors from 11 different countries of three continents: Asia, North and South America, Europe.
