Eurographics 2012, a double success

The 33rd  annual conference of the European Association for Computer Graphics, Eurographics 2012, has taken place recently in Cagliari. Besides, about 100 more people attended the collateral events and visited the exhibition. This year's program has been the richest ever in the history of Eurographics and featured 66 full papers presentations, 27 short papers presentations, 20 posters, 12 computer graphics forum short seminars, 7 Industrial talks and 3 keynotes.

Sardegna Ricerche, a public agency created by the Regional Government of Sardinia, held one-to-one meetings to foster cooperation between research and private companies in the field of computer graphics. Moreover, several industry organizations exhibited at the conference.

"This was a wonderful edition of Eurographics. I have been on many scientific committees at conferences in the last twenty years, and I really must say that Eurographics 2012 was excellent", said Thomas Ertl, chairman of the European Association for Computer Graphics.

"We're all very satisfied with the quality of the papers, many of which will certainly be often cited in scientific literature", said Enrico Gobbetti, conference chair and research director at Crs4. "We had some outstanding industrial talks, which showcased the latest developments in the field of computer graphics and gave an interesting outlook for the directions industrial research should take. In the virtual room, we presented a state-of-the art technology developed by Crs4 for the exploration of large-scale geometric and volumetric models, with applications in medicine and cultural heritage".

Riccardo Scateni, co-chair and associate professor of computer science at the University of Cagliari, added: "Eurographics 2012 has been a success both in scientific and organizational terms, and improved the standards of the conference. I'd especially like to thank Fabio Bettio from Crs4, who was the real heart of the event. For our part, we contributed with a large group of university students who volunteered for the event".
