A bridge for science

The Italian National Research Council (Cnr) trough the President's office and the International Relations and Agreements Office organized recently in Rome 'Science bridge', a meeting with the international diplomatic community in Italy.

The main aim of the event, as explained by Luigi Nicolais, Cnr president, was to inform the international diplomatic community in Italy, about the scientific activities and interests of the major Italian research institution, with over 100 research centres all over the country, working on almost all scientific fields. "Scientific research is at the core of innovation and Italy has a long and excellent tradition in this field", said Nicolais. "Technological innovation and research play an essential and ever more important role. Therefore there must be a framework of cooperation between government and scientists firmly into place".

The event highlighted the most suitable cooperation politics in both Italy and other countries and identified possible areas of future collaboration. The event saw the participation of the Italian ministry of Education, University and Research and of Foreign Affairs together with high-level representatives from the embassies of Austria, Belarus, Bolivia, Canada, China, Croatia, Cuba, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Panama, Poland, Quebec, Uk, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Usa, South Africa and Switzerland.

This meeting is the first of a series of future initiatives which will follow in 2013, in order to further enhance a better knowledge of the scientific fields which the Cnr is directly involved with.
