Nfs: international call for collaboration

The National Science Foundation (Nsf) is working jointly with national, regional and multinational funding organizations counterpart worldwide to enhance opportunities for collaborative activities in materials research between Us investigators and their colleagues abroad. The reference institution in Italy is the Italian National Research Council (Cnr), to which all Italian researchers are invited to submit on-line proposals.

Continued progress in materials research is increasing upon collaborative efforts among multiple disciplines, as well as closer coordination among founding agencies and effective partnerships involving universities, industry and national laboratories. Furthermore, in view of the rapid change in science and engineering capabilities worldwide as well as industries becoming increasingly global, partnerships are important at both national and international level.

Proposals submitted to Nsf in response to this solicitation must have clear relevance to fundamental materials and condensed matter research supported by the Nsf Division for Materials Research (Dmr). Proposals will be evaluated within the context of programmatic areas supported by Dmr: condensed matter physics, solid state and materials chemistry, polymers, biomaterials, metallic materials and nanostructures, ceramics, electronic and photonic materials, condensed matter and materials theory.

Research projects targeting the discovery of new materials or making materials more sustainable through improved synthesis enhanced applications, and/or advances in lifecycle management are particularly encouraged. It is strongly recommended that proposers contact the cognizant program office listed in this solicitation to ascertain that the scientific focus of the proposed research is suitable for the solicitation.
The Cnr website ('Bandi attivi') provides all the information to submit the Italian proposals. Application deadline is November 14, 2012, due by 5 p.m. Local time.
