Cnr-Igb 50th anniversary symposium

To celebrate its 50th anniversary (1962-2012), the Institute of Genetics and Biophysics Adriano Buzzati Traverso of the National Research Council of Italy (Cnr-Igb) will offer a scientific symposium contributed by internationally recognized leaders in the fields of genetics, developmental biology, stem cell biology and cancer biology.

The meeting will be held next March 1 in Naples (Cnr-Conference room). Antonio Baldini, Cnr-Igb Director will open the conference. Among the participants, Walter Gehring (University of Basel, Switzerland), Claudio Stern (University College London, Uk), Anders Björklund (Lund University, Sweden) and Pier Paolo Pandolfi (Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center, Boston, Usa).

The Cnr-Igb started its activities on March 1st 1962, under the name of the International laboratory of genetics and biophysics. Adriano Buzzati-Traverso, its first Director, conceived the new laboratory based upon a vision of a then nascent, exciting new discipline: molecular genetics. The laboratory was funded through a 5-year agreement between the Cnr, the National Committee for Nuclear Research and the European Atomic Energy Community. Soon after, the laboratory became one of the first institutes of the Cnr. Faithful to the original vision, today the Igb is committed to face the challenges of frontier biology.
