Garr Conference,  a glance into future

The Garr Conference 2011, coordinated by Cnr, Infn, Enea, Inaf and Ingv, will be held at Cnr Research Area of Bologna, on November 8-10, 2011.

It was born in Bologna 20 years ago and since then has been on the side of Italian researchers in their daily work. It will show how the research networks and their users have changed the way science is done in the last twenty years, creating the e-Science and will discuss the evolution of this paradigm for the next twenty. Today, users from different disciplines and increasingly permeable amongst their access information produced large amounts of data and transforming it in new knowledge through the use of digital networks and infrastructure always more transparent and integrated.

Over the next twenty years, the continuous evolution of the scientific disciplines and collaboration on a global scale will implement the production of data to store, manage and transform into new knowledge. The 2011 Conference will therefore focus on the access mode, organization and conservation of such distributed data, which will be independent of its geographical location and the user. There will also be talks about policies and technologies to ensure the security and integrity of the data, without sacrificing easy access by authorized users.

The Conference will be organized to take into account the issues of e-Science and innovative services: distributed database, data access, authentication and security preservation; Grid, cloud, high performance computing; innovative methods for data processing and the creation of new knowledge; green It; new methods of knowledge transfer and use of content on the web; integration of wired and wireless networks, user access and mobility; new research infrastructure and user community.

Proposals are invited from all disciplines of the users who belong to the Garr community, from physics, energy, climate change and earth sciences, the arts, cultural heritage, and archaeological library, to bioinformatics. They should be sent to conf11-pc@garr.it within July, 4 2011.
